Established in 2003, BioCrossroads is a
initiative that grows, advances, and invests in Indiana’s life sciences industry, which generates $77 billion in economic activity statewide. To support this sector, which includes biosciences, drugs and pharmaceuticals, medical devices and equipment, research, testing, and medical laboratories, and health information technology, the organization engages in the following activities: investing in life sciences businesses through mentorship and venture capital funds; expanding collaboration and partnerships among Indiana’s life sciences institutions; promoting science education; marketing Indiana’s life sciences industry; and launching new life sciences enterprises.These activities led to the creation of several BioCrossroads-affiliated nonprofits. In 2004, the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE) was established to provide secure, interoperable health IT network to connect hospitals, care facilities, health clinics, and other healthcare providers. Two years later, the Datalys Center for Sports Injury Research and Prevention was formed. The center, which focuses on the health and safety of athletes and other physically active populations, is a collaborative effort between BioCrossroads, the

IBRI has dedicated a large portion of its resources to projects addressing metabolic diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and poor nutrition.In addition to supporting these nonprofits, BioCrossroads hosts the Indiana Life Sciences Summit.
