John Green is an award-winning author and YouTube content creator from Indianapolis. In January 2012, he released his sixth novel, The Fault in Our Stars, which is set in Indianapolis and follows 16-year-old Hazel, who has terminal cancer, and 17-year-old Augustus who is in remission. The two meet at a cancer support group and form a bond despite different outlooks on life. Throughout the novel, the pair deal with the realities of cancer while finding love and support in each other.

Several Indianapolis locations are mentioned in the novel including, The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park (Newfields), Free Basket and Funky Bones sculptures (Holliday Park), Grandview Drive/Highlands Country Club, Castleton Square Mall, Speedway Gas Station at 86th and Ditch Road, Crown Hill Cemetery Broad Ripple Farmers Market, and North Central High School.

The novel received critical acclaim, reaching number one on The New York Times bestseller list for children’s chapter books, the Wall Street Journal bestseller list, and the Indiebound bestseller list. Two years after its release the novel was adapted into a feature-length film, which opened number one at the box office. The film included no Indianapolis locations.
