The Board of Voter Registration implements and administers voter registration rules established under state and local law. Membership consists of one Republican and one Democrat, appointed for two-year terms by their respective county chairs. The board maintains an office in the City-County Building where its duties are executed by a full-time and part-time staff split evenly between the two major parties. Funding for the board’s operations comes from the Marion County general fund and is approved by the same budget process used for most other county agencies.

As required by the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA), the Indiana Secretary of State maintains and funds the Statewide Voter Registration System (SVRS). The Marion County Board of Voter Registration is responsible for updating Marion County records in SVRS.
