Pleasant Run Greenway, also known as the Pleasant Run Trail, is a 6.9-mile multi-use trail in Indianapolis. It connects the northeast neighborhood of
to the southern neighborhood of , following the general course of Pleasant Run Creek. Much of the Greenway lies within the existing Pleasant Run Parkway; where Pleasant Run Parkway is discontinuous due to structural impediments, the Greenway utilizes existing sidewalks.Pleasant Run Greenway was established as one of the fourteen corridors laid out in the 1994 Indianapolis Greenways Plan to create a system of linear parks. Construction of the Greenway began in 1997, and it was officially opened in August 1998. The Greenway integrates numerous locations through its shared-use path. Five parks, four neighborhoods, the Garfield Park Conservatory & Sunken Gardens, and four connections to other trails are readily accessible from the Pleasant Run Greenway.
Much of the Greenway meanders with the flow of Pleasant Run Creek and through historic neighborhoods. At its northeast end, runners and pedestrians access the Greenway in Ellenberger Park in the historic Irvington area. From here the Greenway passes through Brown’s Corner Park, Christian Park, and Orange Park before leading to its southern end in the northwest corner of Garfield Park. The 6.9-mile Greenway is mostly asphalt except in Ellenberger Park where a crushed limestone surface restricts its use to runners and pedestrians. Indy Parks identified the Pleasant Run Greenway as one with significant user traffic, averaging 32,000 users annually between 2008 and 2012.
In 2011 construction of a cycle-track connector linking Pleasant Run Greenway to Fountain Square and the Cultural Trail was completed. Future plans for the Greenway include connections from the southern portion of Garfield Park the White River Greenway and an extension north and east from Ellenberger Park will connect the Greenway to the Pennsy Trail. Once complete, these additions will provide a continuous trail, linking areas north, west, and east of Indianapolis to downtown Indianapolis and its amenities.
