Indy’s Child was started in 1984 “to make parenting easier in Indianapolis.” The magazine, owned by Barbara S. Wynne, well-known for her youth tennis programs, is issued monthly. Her daughter Mary Wynne Cox serves as the magazine’s publisher. It is distributed free of charge at retail stores, libraries, doctors’ and dentists’ offices, daycare centers, preschools, schools, and local grocery stores. Circulation in January 1994 was 70,000; by 2020, it was 120,000.

Indy’s Child also publishes Indy’s Grand and Indy’s Baby, which appear annually. The magazines’ articles focus on education, recreation, health, and family issues. Indy’s Child has won three national awards when judged against 58 other parenting publications in the United States, including best feature article, best cover, and best reporting. In 2017 and 2018, the magazine won the gold award for excellence from the Parenting Media Association (PMA).
