(Dec. 16, 1890-May 13, 1985). Born in Marysville, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1915, Charles Wesley Myers served in the Army Medical Corps during World War I and received the Distinguished Service Cross and the Croix de Guerre (twice) from France.
Following the war, he became a surgeon for the U.S. Veterans Bureau in Indianapolis before moving to

During his tenure as superintendent and medical director (1931-1952), Myers opened new wards for African American patients, appointed Black employees to the hospital staff, and oversaw the construction of improved special care facilities. He was instrumental in creating the of Marion County, serving as a trustee from 1952 to 1968. In September 1968, General Hospital dedicated a $12-million (over $89.7 million in 2020), seven-story addition designated as the Dr. Charles W.
