Beech Crest was developed between 1962 and 1968. Homes are mostly one-story ranches with 1,000 to 1,200 square feet or larger split-levels. Typical lots are about one-quarter acre. The neighborhood is just outside the city limits of Beech Grove.

Our Lady of Grace Monastery is adjacent to Beech Crest. The monastery was founded as a daughter house by Benedictine sisters in Ferdinand, Indiana. St. Paul Hermitage Retirement and Nursing Care Facility is located on the grounds. It serves retired, aged, and infirm monks and priests. The sisters operated Our Lady of Grace Academy from 1956 to 1978.
