A group of German immigrants organizes the Zion Evangelical Church. The building of the Evangelical Lutheran congregation, located at 32 West Ohio Street, is dedicated on May 18, 1845.

Gothic-style brick church building featuring a central, gabled nave with stained-glass window in pointed arch form. There are two flanking, square towers, the southern one rising a full story higher to accommodate bells and chimes; and the entrance porch connecting these three elements, with its three pointed-arch doorways.
