The office of county treasurer is required by the Indiana constitution. The Marion County Treasurer is elected to a four-year term by all voters in the county and may serve no more than two consecutive terms. The treasurer collects and accounts for all county monies.

County taxpayers are billed by, and make payments to, the treasurer’s office for real and personal property taxes, inheritance taxes, and county excise, license, and wheel taxes. The treasurer is responsible for investing surplus revenues until they are needed, and for issuing payments to individuals with approved claims to county funds. In addition, the treasurer responds to requests from citizens for tax clearance searches and for title and lien information on properties and businesses in the county.

The Marion County Treasurer serves ex officio as treasurer of the city of Indianapolis, treasurer of the Indianapolis Board of School Commissioners, member of the Marion County Commissioners, and president of the county commissioners in alternate years with the Marion County Assessor. The treasurer also serves on the Marion County Board of Tax Review.
